Access For All portal

Access For All aims at providing an overview of the most relevant projects dealing with people with disabilities and their needs. These range from private initiatives to those partially funded by e.g. the European Commission under the Framework Programmes, Leonardo da Vinci Programme, etc.

e-Learning environment 1

ATutor is the most accessible e-learning environment worldwide, and is used by PhoenixKM throughout its activities to offer an easy, user friendly but above all accessible online learning experience. Soon free courses will be made available as well.

e-Learning environment 2

PhoenixKM also offers as part of its services a Moodle e-learning environment, supporting a number of organisations in establishing their online learning environment.

ImPaCT In Europe project launched

ImPaCT in Europe, a project aiming to demonstrate how assistive technology and ICT can significantly support independence for people with disabilities and their parents, has been launched by a partnership of European organisations coordinated by EASPD, the European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities.

Funded under the Lifelong Learning Programme of DG Education and Culture, ImPaCT in Europe will run from January 2009 to December 2011.

The project is designed to raise awareness of the benefits of Person Centred Technology (PCT), i.e. technology specifically designed around the needs of the individual for disabled people and their carers, improving quality of life and opening up potential employment opportunities for the individual.

Targeting people with cognitive, intellectual and physical disabilities, and their carers, ImPaCT in Europe will develop an ethical code that is based upon a person centred approach. The project will also carry out a training needs analysis and mapping exercise across countries within the European Union, researching how and where PCT, including ICT, is used and to what extent.

Throughout the project, information will be shared across a diverse audience including users, carers, policy makers, purchasers, providers and manufacturers and this will be disseminated through seminars and conferences in the partner countries.

The findings will also be used to lobby governments for general policy initiatives which will ensure that the provision of PCT is primarily to improve users’ and carers’ quality of life and secondly to make efficient use of resources.

Coordinated by EASPD, ImPaCT in Europe is a partnership project. Partner organisations are from Belgium (Vzw Gouverneur Kinsbergen - Gehandicaptenzorg provincie Antwerpen – Modem and PPG), England (Nottingham Community Housing Association and HFT), France (Centre de la Gabrielle - Mutualité Fonction Publique), Finland (Finnish Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities- FAIDD), the Netherlands (Philadelphia/Espria), Portugal (Centro de Educação para o Cidadão Deficiente de Mira Sintra), and Wales (Learning Disability Wales).
